Summary

SnowCall has no accounts and no server of its own. The places you save stay on your phone. To show a forecast, the app sends the approximate coordinates of your ZIP code or postal area to public weather services. The free version shows ads (Google AdMob) and the app uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics for aggregated usage statistics and crash reports.

Location

You choose a place by typing a U.S. ZIP code or a Canadian postal code, or by tapping “Use my location”. If you use your location, the app asks for permission only while it is open (“when in use”), requests low-precision (approximate) location, and uses it once to find the nearest ZIP code or postal area. Your exact coordinates are not stored or sent: only the approximate coordinates of that ZIP or postal area are used. SnowCall never accesses your location in the background.

To get the forecast, the approximate coordinates of the selected place are sent to the U.S. National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) for places in the United States, or to Environment and Climate Change Canada (api.weather.gc.ca) for places in Canada. These services receive your IP address like any website. SnowCall does not add any identifier to those requests.

What SnowCall stores

The saved places, your unit choice, your alert settings and your Remove ads status are stored only on this device. If device backup is on, the system may include them in your personal backup. Uninstalling the app deletes them.

Notifications

The night-before alert is a local notification generated on your phone. It is optional and you can turn it off in Settings. No push server is involved. On Android the app checks the forecast for your saved places in the background about every 3 hours while the alert is on; on iPhone it does so when you open the app.

Sharing a result

When you tap “Share this result”, the app creates an image on your phone and opens the system share sheet. You choose where it goes. SnowCall does not upload it.

Ads

The free version shows a Google AdMob banner and an occasional full-screen ad. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland we ask for your consent (Google UMP form) before showing ads; you can change it in Settings > Privacy and ad choices when it is available. Google may use the advertising identifier and approximate location (from the IP address) to serve and measure ads.

The one-time “Remove ads” purchase turns ads off.

Usage statistics and crash reports

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to know, in aggregate, which features are used (for example, whether a place is added, a day is selected or a result is shared). Events do not include the name or code of your place. We use Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash and performance reports (technical trace, device model, system and app version) so that we can fix problems.

Data processed by third-party services

Data sent to these services is encrypted in transit (TLS). This matches the Google Play Data safety section and the App Store privacy practices of the app.

Purchases

The Remove ads purchase is processed by Google Play on Android and by the App Store on iPhone and charged to your Google or Apple account. SnowCall does not receive your payment details; it only learns whether the purchase is valid.

Permissions

Children

SnowCall is aimed at teenagers, parents and adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. SnowCall does not ask for names, emails or any account information.

Your rights and data deletion

The app has no accounts, so there is nothing on our servers to delete. Uninstall the app to remove everything stored on your phone. For data processed by Google (ads, analytics, crash reports) you can use Google’s privacy controls, and for any request you can write to tll.developers.apps@gmail.com.

Not official

SnowCall gives an estimate of the chance of a school closure for entertainment and planning. It is not an official announcement and is not affiliated with any government agency, weather service, school or school district.
